Prospective Research Assistants

We welcome applications from any student who is passionate about improving children's mental health!

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

We value diversity in all forms and encourage applications from individuals of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, gender identifications, sexual orientations, ability statuses, and socioeconomic statuses. Our goal is to create and maintain a safe and accepting space for individuals who have been underserved and marginalized. We are particularly committed to mentoring undergraduates who are underrepresented in research and science.

Process & Timeline

Update (Apr 2024): We are no longer accepting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year. All undergraduate openings have been filled. Please check back in the future.

We welcome applications from undergraduate students interested in pursuing research in our lab. Undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) positions are available for course credit (Honours, Specialization, Directed Research, Independent Research), or on a voluntary basis. Research responsibilities vary based on the specific project(s) an RA works on and what stage the project(s) are in at the time. We try our best to match RAs with projects that align most closely with their interests when feasible.

RA applications are typically reviewed in mid-late February for openings in the ensuing Summer or Fall semester (unless otherwise noted). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until positions are filled. The lab typically welcomes 2-3 undergraduate students per academic year. For Honours, Specialization, Directed or Independent Research students, priority is given to students who have taken a course with Dr. Lui or who have previously volunteered in the lab, and who can begin working on their project ahead of time (e.g., the summer). Interviews will typically take place in early March.

Note: Students interested in enrolling in PSYC 387 or PSYC 487 require departmental approval. You can find the department registration form here (Search for "Application to do a Directed Reading or Research Project"). You must be accepted to complete a project in our lab prior to applying to the department. The department application is typically submitted in April.

If you’re interested in joining our lab as a RA, whether for course credit or on a voluntary basis, we invite you to complete an application. Please submit the completed application form along with your CV and unofficial transcript to Dr. Lui at joyce.lui@concordia.caIf you have any questions about the SPARK Lab, or experience technical problems filling out this application, please email sparklab@concordia.ca
